DATE: Victorian, c.1890
This fantastic antique diamond-set crescent moon brooch dates from the Victorian period, circa 1890. Modelled as a pendant, it looks great worn on a chunky chain, and is crafted in 15k yellow gold with silver open backed settings. The crescent itself totals around 3 carats of chunky old mine cut diamonds arranged in an graduated row along its length. The crescent moon was quite the popular symbol for the Victorians. The sky's mysterious nature intrigued them, and it represented the realm of dreams, magic, and the hidden aspects of life. Moon motifs were used to bring a sense of wonder and to encourage the wearer to explore their imagination and embrace the unknown.
